SURREY SCORCHERS 93-79 ESH GROUP NEWCASTLE EAGLES

Surrey Scorchers defeated the Newcastle Eagles 93-79 to extend the winning streak at home to seven games.

A packed Surrey Sports Park witnessed an exciting offensive display from the home side, along with a tough defensive effort.

Gerald Robinson led the way with 34 points and 10 rebounds. Captain Tayo Ogedengbe added 17.

Scorchers started the game as they wanted to go on with a strong first quarter. Robinson set the tone with seven quick points and Scorchers ended the quarter with a seven point lead.

They continued to trouble the Eagles with a stellar defensive effort. Big plays from Tayo Ogedengbe and Robinson handed the home team a nine point lead at the break.

Robinson exploded for 17 points after the break as Scorchers poured in 31 points in ten minutes. Hicks put on an offensive masterclass to extend the lead to 23.

Newcastle clawed back in the final quarter but the margin was too much ground for the Northern side to make up.

Scorchers have now won their past seven home games and now climb to a 15-12 record.
