Report: Sharks late surge sinks Scorchers

DBL Sharks Sheffield overturned an 11-point deficit heading into the fourth as they defeated Surrey Scorchers 78-86 on the road.

The visitors poured in 30 points in the final period to complete the turnaround with Malcolm Riley leading four other players in double figures with 22 points.

Rashawn Rembert added 17 points from the bench, while Tony Wroblicky posted a double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds.

The Scorchers made a bright start with a 9-3 opening on their way to building a seven-point cushion before pulling away late in the second.

Gabe McCray netted twice from downtown in a 9-0 burst to move to 18 first-half points as the Scorchers took a 50-39 lead into the break.

Sheffield closed the gap in the third, but the home side kept them at bay with a 17-17 quarter keeping the gap at 11 ahead of the final 10 minutes.

The Sharks seized control with a pivotal 20-2 spell to start the fourth as they stormed into a 69-76 advantage before closing out the win from the foul line.

McCray finished with 25 for Surrey as their winning run came to an end, though they remain in eighth.

Scorchers are back in BBL Championship action next Sunday when they host the Leicester Riders in a 4pm tip-off at Surrey Sports Park.
