Late drama for Surrey Scorchers saw them defeated at home for the first time in 2018 as Glasgow Rocks snatched a 92-94 victory.
Down by more than 20 points at half-time, Scorchers fought back to take the lead following a strong fourth quarter but couldn’t quite hold on.
Quincy Taylor top scored for Scorchers (20) on his return to Surrey Sports Park, followed by Tayo Ogedengbe with 20 and Josh Steel with 15.
Ali Fraser top scored with 19 for the visiting side, including the winning points.
The opening plays were strong for Creon Raftopoulos’ side, with Steel getting the opening points of the game, closely followed by Taylor.
Rocks came alive towards the end of the corner, and opened up a 17-27 lead.
Back-to-back 3-point shots from Demario Beck and Steel at the start of the second quarter brought the score closer but it was Rocks again who closed out the quarter strong, taking a 37-59 lead into the interval.
It was like different Scorchers side had taken to court in the second half, with Ogedengbe leading the fight back.
12 unanswered points from Scorchers brought them within two points, and Scorchers went into the final quarter trailing just 72-74.
With 9:15 on the clock, Ogedengbe put Scorchers in the lead for the first time since the opening quarter.
With just 10 seconds remaining, Fraser’s lay-up gave Rocks a slender lead and a vital defensive rebound from Glasgow’s Kenny Carpenter with just moments on the clock helped them see out the win.
Scorchers now face a double-header weekend on the road to DBL Sharks Sheffield and London City Royals in search of their first victory of the 2018/19 BBL Championship season.
