Scorchers suffered a home defeat to London Lions in the opening weekend of the British Basketball League.
In what was a tight encounter at the Sports Park Arena, last year’s champions proved a tough opponent.
The home side got off to a good start with rookie Cameroon Gooden opening the scoring for Scorchers. The young guard from Louisiana finished the night as the leading points scorer for Scorchers.
There were only three points in at the end of the first half, but Lions came out in the second and built a lead which Scorchers were unable to respond to.
Saiquan Jamison on his return to SSP was Scorchers’ leading rebounder with 14.
Scorchers’ next fixture is at home against Sheffield Sharks on Saturday, September 30th (5pm tip-off).
