Scorchers add two-time league MVP Justin Robinson to 2023/24 roster

Surrey Scorchers are delighted to announce the signing of experienced guard Justin Robinson ahead of the new season.

The 6ft 2’’ player, who is considered one of the best guards of his generation, makes the move to Surrey Sports Park from local rivals London Lions, where he captained the side to a BBL League and Cup double.

During his time in London the man from Brixton won two BBL MVP awards in a row, and for the 2019/20 season averaged 17 points and 5 assists per game.

Having attended high school in the US at Blair Academy and then Rider University in New Jersey, Robinson’s professional carrier got underway in 2011 in Greece where he first played for Marousii.

However, he saw the 2011/12 season play out in Cyprus playing for Apollon Limassol. In 2012, he moved to Ukraine to play for BC Kyiv. In March 2013 he signed for Swedish side Uppsala Basket for the remainder of the season.

Next up, a trip to Hungary to play for Falco KC Szombatheley and Atomeromu SE for the 2013/14 season.

A return to former side Apollon Limassol in November 2014, before making the move back to the Greek Basket League and Kolossos Rodou in February 2015.

In September he made the move to Doxa Lefkadas, before a switch to French Pro-B side Saint Quentin in March 2017.

Fast forward to August of the same year the 35-year-old made his return to the UK and BBL side London Lions. Robinson has also represented the GB National team.

After missing a season due to an almost career ending injury, I’m really excited to be joining Scorchers. I’m really looking forward making Surrey my home.

Justin Robinson

I think anytime you have the ability to add a two-time league MVP to your team it is a great moment. Justin has proved himself and his quality both in the BBL and abroad, so we know the type of player and person we have joining the team. I think that he is also someone with the frustrations of the last few seasons who has a point to prove to others which I’m excited about.
