Olympian Andrew Lawrence to remain in Surrey

Surrey Scorchers are delighted to announce that Team GB athlete Andrew Lawrence will remain at Surrey Sports Park for the 2023/24 season.

One of the best guards of recent years, Lawrence represented Team GB at the London Olympics in 2012. Lawrence is set for his third season at Scorchers.

The point-guard, who had suffered a season ending injury in 2021, signed a short-term contract for the 2021/22 season from Plymouth Raiders. Controlling the Surrey side in the back court and driving Scorchers through the cup group stages, Lawrence was finding his groove back on court.

Throughout last season he averaged 9.5 points per game, 2.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists.

The 33-year-old attended St John Baptist School in Woking, before moving to Charleston College in America.

Having graduated in 2013, Lawrence then was selected as a member of the Washington Wizards’ 2013 NBA Summer League squad.

Before making the move to former BBL side London City Royals in 2019, Lawrence gained experience in Europe playing for sides such as KZ Zadar in Croatia, Gipuzko Basket in Spain and Sigal Prishtina in Kosovo.

A short trip across to play in France for Champagne Chalons-Reims Basket, before a second stint at previous club Sigal Prishtina.

Originally from London, Lawrence made the move back to the UK to appear for the first time in the BBL with London City Royals in August 2019. He joined his local club from Italian side Scafati Basket.

I’m really looking forward to this season. It’s a fresh start and we intend to be very competitive and win lots of games.

Andrew Lawrence

We are delighted that Andrew will be continuing with Scorchers. He is one of the best British guards to have played the game and his experience is key for us. We saw flashes of his ability last year and I’m looking forward to him being even more influential this upcoming season.
