Report: Scorchers 64-73 Raiders

Scorchers failed to build on Friday’s final quarter heroics, falling to a 64-73 home defeat at the hands of playoff rivals Plymouth Raiders.

Scorchers 64 (18, 20, 12, 14) (Johnson 13, Ogedengbe 12, Behrens 10)
Raiders 73 (17, 14, 26, 16) (Dixon 18, Wilcher 12, Corletto 11, Vigor 8)

Despite leading at the break 38-31, Scorchers succumbed to a second half raid from visitors Plymouth, who took the third quarter 12-26 which saw KC Ross-Miller fouled out early with a technical.

Scorchers got to within four with 1.28 on the clock, but Raiders managed to see out the win from the line with Scorchers on team fouls.

After such a promising opening period and a chance at another late comeback, Coach Creon Raftopolous would be left feeling the game was a missed opportunity to secure back-to-back wins, leaving Scorchers 1-1 from the weekend.

Scorchers’ Christian Behrens secured a double double with 13reb (9def) and 10 pts, whilst Timothy Johnson Jnr top scored with 13pts, closely followed by Tayo Ogedengbe with 12pts from a series of jams in the paint.

Defeat leaves Scorchers in tenth, 4 points off playoffs. Next up is the visit of Sheffield Sharks to Surrey Sports Park on Sunday 21 February for a 3.00pm tip-off.
