LONDON LIONS 94-71 SURREY SCORCHERS

Surrey Scorchers lost their first game since January on Friday evening as they fell 94-71 to the London Lions at the Copper Box Arena.

London built a lead in the 1st quarter that Scorchers were unable to claw back as they concede the season series 2-1.

Alex Owumi led the Scorchers with 21 points but it wasn’t enough against their fellow BBL Play-Off contenders.

London started the game as they meant to go on with an organised offence. They scored 27 points while Scorchers struggled to just 17 in the opening 10 minutes.

A low scoring second period followed as neither team could get the ball into the basket. A deep 3-pointer from Caylin Raftopoulos pushed Surrey onwards but they ultimately went into the break down by 14 points.

Creon Raftopoulos’ side didn’t lie down however and were soon back within as few as 3 points thanks to some lights out shooting from former Lion Alex Owumi.

Their hard work was cancelled out by London who re-built the lead to 8 points by the end of the quarter.

Tony Hicks also fouled out of the contest to add to the Scorchers’ problems.

The home side ran away with the 4th quarter 28-13 to claim the win and end Scorchers’ 4game winning streak.

Scorchers are back at Surrey Sports Park on Sunday afternoon to take on the Newcastle Eagles (2.15pm tip-off) and tickets are expected to be limited in supply over the weekend!
