LONDON CITY ROYALS 92 SURREY SCORCHERS 84

A determined fourth quarter fightback from the Scorchers wasn’t enough as the Royals took the win in Crystal Palace.

Scorchers set up the game for a thrilling finish as Tayo Ogedengbe and Ryan Richards combined to bring the game to within four points.

But the slow start from Creon Raftopoulos’ side ended up costing them, as Royals were able to hold on in front of their home crowd.

Scorchers were held to just 12 points in the opening quarter.

Henry Wilkins got the offence going with five points at the end of the period.

The offence improved in the second quarter as Creon’s side looked to reduce the damage.

A hotly-contested half fell narrowly in the Royals favour, who had a 48-32 lead at half-time.

The second half was a different story completely, as new signing Ryan Richards came to life to surge the Scorchers back into the game.

He scored 11 points in the third period to re-energise the Scorchers attack.

This set up a thrilling finish in the fourth quarter, as threes from Caylin Raftopoulos and Tayo Ogedengbe turned the tide of the fixture.

These were followed by a four-point-play by Richards, and Scorchers were back within four points of the Royals.

Despite the fantastic comeback, Andrew Lawrence scored a lay-up in transition to put the game out of reach.

Stat leaders:

  • Tayo Ogedengbe – 24 points, 5 rebounds
  • Ryan Richards – 19 points, 4 rebounds
  • James Hawthorne Jr – 13 points, 8 rebounds
