SURREY SCORCHERS 73 V 94 LONDON CITY ROYALS

Surrey Scorchers suffered yet another defeat 73 – 94 in a clash with London City Royals at Surrey Sports Park.

The Scorchers looked to take the head-to-head over London City Royals this weekend after their only win in 2019 on New Year’s Day against the visiting side.

But it was not to be for the Scorchers as they struggled to get off the mark, despite a much-improved defensive performance, the team’s 34% scoring stat left plenty to be desired.

Scorchers struggled to get underway in the first quarter, as they fell 2 – 10 down just three minutes from the tip.

Coach Creon Raftopoulos was forced to call an early timeout, which came to little effect as the game continued in a similar fashion.

Scorchers still struggled to find the basket, despite Anthony Elechi cleaning up several early mistakes, ending the first quarter 15 – 26.

Back on the court in Q2, it was Quincy Taylor who came out firing, finding the Scorchers first three of the game and hoping to make up the distance.

The team suddenly found themselves back within eight points, and there was a short spell of hope in the Surrey Sports Park arena.

Scorchers returned to the locker room with a 35-46 score line and all the work to do.

The second half saw the Royals come out with no intention of stopping, scoring eight points in less than two minutes whilst holding Scorchers to zero.

But it was the Ex-Scorcher, Will Neighbour who hammered the score home for the London City Royals, ending the game with 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

The scoreline didn’t get any prettier for the home side as they found themselves trailing by 31 after Royals went on a 0-11 run in Q3.

The final quarter was an all Royals affair as Scorchers continue to make error after error, ending the game 73-94 and their 15th loss on record.

This leaves the Scorchers firmly placed 11thin the Championship. They next face the only team below them in the table, Worcester Wolves, on the road next Friday (15th February).

Scorchers will then return home to the Sports Park for a clash with the DBS Sheffield Sharks on Sunday 17th February (TO 2pm). Tickets are available to purchase here
