WEEKEND PREVIEW: VITAL DOUBLE HEADER

Scorchers head into a huge weekend in the BBL Championship on the back of four straight wins.

A 56-point victory against the Leeds Force last Friday moved the Scorchers into 6th in the BBL standings heading into the final stretch of the season.

Scorchers travel to the Copper Box Arena on Friday to take on the London Lions.

The capital-city side sit one position below Creon Raftopoulos’ side and will look to move above them in the standings.

The season series is tied at 1-1 with the Lions defeating the Scorchers 93-78 back in October, before Tony Hicks guided the Scorchers to victory in the reverse fixture on New Year’s Day.

Scorchers will return to Surrey Sports Park on Sunday after a month’s absence as they take on the Newcastle Eagles.

The Eagles sit in second place in the BBL table and could be the Scorchers’ first round opponents should they qualify for the Playoffs.

Newcastle defeated Surrey 103-80 back in November. Scorchers will be looking to level the season series on Sunday and extend their unbeaten home record to seven games.

The contest will also feature two of the best point guards in the league. Jaysean Paige is currently leading the BBL in points per game, while Tony Hicks was voted the BBL Player of the month for February as he continues to steer the Scorchers towards the playoffs.

Victories in both games could see the Scorchers climb into fourth place.

Even if they lose both games they will still have a positive season record and therefore maintain their place in the top eight.

Tip-off at Surrey Sports Park on Sunday is at 14:15.
