Sheffield Sharks 88 Surrey Scorchers 59

Scorchers suffered defeat in South Yorkshire at the hands of the Sheffield Sharks.

Creon Raftopoulos’ side failed to lift the lid off the basket as they scored just 36 per cent from the field.

Antwon Lillard led the way for the home side with 24 points, while a late surge from Tony Hicks helped him to finish with 21 points of his own.

Atiba Lyons’ side set the tempo in the opening quarter with some high-octane offence and stellar defence.

Scorchers trailed 28-18 after the opening ten minutes.

Surrey’s offensive struggles worsened in the second quarter as they were held to just seven points in the period.

Things didn’t get any easier for Surrey as they scored just 13 points in the third quarter, trailing by 28 points after three quarters.

Despite a late flurry of offence from Tony Hicks and Evan Walshe, Scorchers had far too much to do in the final few minutes and suffered defeat on the road.

We will look to bounce back on Sunday as we welcome Worcester Wolves to Surrey Sports Park.
