Scorchers punch in their first Victory of the 2021/22 BBL Cup

The Scorchers hosted Plymouth City Patriots as both teams seek to gain their first wins in the BBL cup.

Now with more depth in their squad, Americans Stanley Davis Jr and Lamar Hamrick suited up for their debut game with the team.

Plymouth City Patriots return to Surrey Sports Park again after they displayed an exciting young squad in the Pre-Season Invitational. Plymouth played without their floor general Elvisi Dusha and Kingsley Okoro.

Scorchers started the game on fire taking an 11 – 2 lead early. Stanley Davis Jr eager to be on the floor sparked a new life in the side beginning the game with aggressive defence and attacking the hoop on offense.

Fellow American Lamar Hamrick scores his first points in the Scorchers jersey as he floats to the rim from outside the key for 2 points. Lamar would end the night with 12 in total.

Plymouth found their feet and settled Into the game with Denzel Ubiaro and Joe Hart doing most of the damage. Scorchers maintain the intensity throughout the quarter as they traded scores.

After a few offensive errors from Scorchers, the Patriots clawed back some of the deficit finishing the half down by 7.

It was a slow start out of the locker room for Coach Creon’s side as after a minute and a half of play in the 3rd the score was back to level.

Wanliss entered the game to bring the energy from the bench as Saiquan Jamison suffered with cramp and had the exit the game. He did not return.

Scorchers struggled to find an offensive rhythm in this quarter, there were no easy looks at the basket. However some tough scores from Martelle McLemore kept us all square entering the final quarter.

It was neck and neck for the majority of the last quarter. No team giving an inch. But the momentum swung in the Scorchers direction after a huge dunk from Stanley Davis Jr that got the crowd on their feet.

A big effort on defence for the home side kept the Patriots to only 7 points in the quarter. Execution in the last couple of minutes gave Scorchers the breathing room to see this victory out for a 65- 57 final score.
