Scorchers sign Gatluak Thiep

Scorchers are delighted to announce the signing of explosive Center Gatluak ‘Mike’ Thiep for the BBL Championship campaign!

The seven-footer spent last season playing in the Ireland Super League for Belfast Star, and has experience playing professionally in Spain.

The 27-year-old Brit grew up playing in London for Concord Prep Academy, before taking his talent State-side to play for Fayetteville State University in the NCAA 2.

During his time in Spain with C.B Eurocolegio Casvi he averaged an impressive seven points, eight rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game.

Renowned for his explosive dunks and impressive shot blocking, Mike will bring much-needed size to the Scorchers team.

Head Coach Creon Raftopoulos said: “Gatluak is someone we considered during the previous two seasons, but our league never had many big centers for him to match up with.

“Looking at the BBL rosters this year, almost every team has a natural center, so we needed to add someone at that position ourselves to be competitive in all areas of the court.

“He’s a player that’s improved each season I’ve watched him and believe our environment is the best place for him to continue to develop and help us win games.”
