Scorchers Face Royals First At BBL All-Stars

Surrey Scorchers will begin the defence of their BBL All-Stars Championship title against London City Royals at the Copper Box Area this Sunday.

The eight-team, five-a-side tournament, which begins at 1pm, features a series of 12-minute matches, with two wins guaranteeing a semi-final place – but two defeats bringing immediate elimination.

Timed by a 14-second shot-clock, scoring shots are worth two points inside the circle, and three points outside – with a special All-Stars five-point line adding extra drama!

Both teams are allowed one two-minute power play – to be taken in the first ten minutes of the game – with all points doubled during that period.

If scores are level at the end of the 12 minutes, 60-second periods of overtime will be played. Substitutions are allowed while the ball is out-of-bounds or immediately after a basket is scored, but not during power plays or in the final 30 seconds of a game.

There is a limit of three personal fouls in each game, after which players will be sent to the Sin Bin for 30 seconds, during which teams will be reduced to four players. More than four team fouls will also attract an additional penalty, but there are no free throws.

Teams winning one and losing one of their opening matches will progress to a Play-Off for a semi-final place.
