Surrey Scorchers have today released American forward DJ Felder.
The 6’4” import was one of Coach Creon Raftopoulos’ first signings of the summer, arriving in the UK after an impressive career with NCAA Division 1 outfit Jacksonville State.
Felder has featured in 18 games for Scorchers this season, starting 7, and holds a 6.83ppg and 5.67rpg average in all competitions.
Back-to-back double-double performances against Leeds and Plymouth in October showed signs of DJ making progress in the BBL, but Coach Creon was keen to see more from his import.
Commenting on DJ’s release, Raftopoulos said: “This was DJ’s first year as a pro and he brought some positives to the roster. But sadly his stats just didn’t match up against other import players in this league.
“He still has a strong future ahead of him in the right environment, but just wasn’t the right size to fit in with the squad. I wish DJ all the best with his career and thank him for his commitment to Scorchers this season.”
Creon has already begun his search for a new signing, with numerous players being monitored as potential recruits and hopes of a signing being made in time for the weekend.
Scorchers return to home BBL Championship action this Sunday afternoon when the Worcester Wolves visit for the second time this month for a 3pm tip-off.
