Scorchers re-sign Dean Wanliss for 2021/22 Season

The Surrey Scorchers re-sign experienced British Forward Dean Wanliss for 21/22 Season

The 32-year-old returns to the Scorchers side after making an impact in the squad last season. Wanliss joined during the 2nd half of the BBL championship to add depth during a busy schedule closing out the year.

With another year in the BBL added to his resume Wanliss is no stranger to the league having previously played for Manchester Giants, Worcester Wolves and Leeds Force.

Wanliss displayed what he can bring to the team with his relentless energy on and off the court. His ability to step up when called upon was demonstrated in his 14-point outing against the London Lions last season.

Scorchers Head Coach Creon Raftopoulos commented: “Every team needs a glue guy who puts the needs of the team ahead of their individual goals and Dean embodies this role.

“He’s an undersized forward but makes up for that with his effort, energy and fight. He also has a good skill set and has worked on improving his outside shooting which I believe will help us in games this season.”

Wanliss excited to return said “I feel great returning for a full season at surrey.

“Last year I only played towards the end of the season, I am looking forward to coming into the team from pre-season and excited to play with some returners and newcomers to the squad.

“I take pride in being that person (glue guy) as I feel every team needs that to be successful.

“As a team and franchise we are trying to get better every day and me being that guy I can help move us positively in the right direction which is to have a winning culture.

“This season the fans can expect me to bring a lot of energy to the court so I hope they are ready for what I bring to the table.”
