Surrey Scorchers are delighted to confirm Caylin Raftopoulos has re-signed for a fifth season with the club
Respected as one of the leagues deadliest shooters from three-point range the 5’8 guard returns to Coach Creon’s line up.
Although still young, Caylin is a BBL veteran as he brings a wealth of experience to the Scorchers. The 21/22 season will make it his fifth season in the league for Scorchers as he looks to bring a playoff spot back to the club for the first time since the 2017/18 season.
Raftopoulos averaged 3.7 points, 1.2 assists and 1 rebound in 14 minutes of play last year. The floor general coming off the bench netted two season highs in the North West scoring 12 points against the Manchester Giants and Cheshire Phoenix.
Pleased to be returning for another season, he said: “It’s my fifth year for Scorchers and I am excited to be back.
“Coming off this covid season I just want to be back playing in front of the fans. I was thinking about making last season my final one, but I wanted to experience a full house at Sports Park, so one more season it is.
“The main goal this year is to make the playoffs, we are right there and there is no reason why we can’t set a goal of getting some silverware this year.”
Head Coach Creon Raftopoulos added: “Caylin has played a key role in growing our club on and off the court in his time with Scorchers.
“He’s got a high basketball IQ which proves valuable on the court as a player and in his feedback in game situations and video.
“We know one of his biggest strengths is outside shooting which contributes to good court spacing for his teammates. We will make a bigger effort this season to run shooting plays for him.”
Continuing to develop the Scorcher pathway, Caylin will also continue as the Head Coach of the Scorchers Basketball Academy, situated at Three Rivers Academy.
“3 River’s academy is a big reason why I am here at Scorchers and coaching over the last 3 years has helped me become a better player on court” Raftopoulos added.
