The Opposition
As Britain’s oldest basketball club and one of the founding members of the BBL, the Leicester Riders bring an element of history and royalty to every venue that they visit during the season. Success has flowed regularly in recent seasons and they secured their second league title earlier this year, only to lose out to the Sheffield Sharks in the Play-off Final at The O2 Arena.
By contrast, the Bristol Flyers are a relatively new outfit and are entering their 3rd season in the BBL. But with GB U20s Head Coach Andreas Kapoulas at the helm, it surely won’t be long before Flyers are up there challenging for titles.
The Roster
Scorchers fans will be delighted to know that all 3 US imports are now in Guildford and in training, with the arrival of Jay Bowie and Quincy Taylor this week. Both will join Chaz Rollins in the roster this weekend.
Fans will also get the chance to welcome serial dunker Jordan Williams back to the Sports Park on Friday evening, with his signing confirmed on Wednesday afternoon.
The Form
Scorchers suffered a double defeat to kick off their BBL Championship season Saturday and Sunday, taking a narrow loss against the London Lions followed by a tough trip to the Plymouth Raiders.
The defending league champions made a huge statement on opening night by beating Sheffield by 31 points and followed with a double-digit victory over Worcester to complete a big opening weekend for Leicester.
Flyers pulled off a big 5-point win at home to the Raiders in their only game last weekend, turning around a short deficit in the final quarter to bag a big victory in front of their home faithful.
Previous Meetings
Scorchers came up against Riders a total of 4 times last season in all competitions, which saw Leicester take wins on all occasions.
The story was very much different against the Flyers though, with Scorchers taking two wins in the three Championship games. Surrey’s BBL debut came on the road at Bristol just over a year ago, a game which saw the visitors mount a huge final quarter comeback to seal a win.
