Surrey Scorchers are delighted to announce the signing of forward Saiquan Jamison for the 2020/2021 season.
The 23-year-old will be joining fellow American Stanley Davis Jr. in making his debut in the British Basketball League after a season in European side PEU – Basket in the Finland 1st division.
In Jamison’s first professional season he averaged a monster 20 points and 20 rebounds a game. The 20/20 man also hurled in a huge 38 rebounds for his season high.
Before turning pro Jamison spent his collegiate career at Bowie State in his home State of Maryland. In his senior year he was just shy of his double-double professional average with 10 points and 9 rebounds per game.
On these stats alone there will be no surprises in what Jamison will be bringing to this Scorchers team for the 2021/22 British Basketball Season.
With big shoes to fill from former forward Lacey James, Coach Raftopoulos commented “In Saiquan we have signed another ‘team first’ guy that does all the little things that make a difference for his team.
“He is extremely active on defence and is a high-level help side defender. His rebounding instincts is what stood out the most from the film we analysed on him.
“He also has the ability to score facing up or with his back to the basket and will fit into our up-tempo style of play with ease.”
With positive talks over the offseason Jamison commented “I am very excited to have the opportunity to sign with the Scorchers and cannot wait to be coached by Coach Raftopoulos.
“Through our conversations he seems like an honest and straightforward coach, that’s someone that I definitely would love the opportunity to play for and learn everything I can from.”
Hungry to win and develop Saiquan added “I am hoping to have a great time and also get better as a player and a professional, I feel like the Scorchers organization will definitely help me in both of those areas.
“Most importantly I want to win a lot of games with my team and just be a great teammate.”
