Scorchers add Lacey James for remainder of BBL Championship campaign!

Surrey Scorchers are pleased to add American Power Forward Lacey James to the roster for the remainder of the 2020/2021 BBL Championship campaign.

The 24-year-old joins Creon Raftopoulos’ side after graduating from Northern Illinois University in 2020.

Standing at 6’9, James has a reputation for being a presence in the paint on both ends of the floor, averaging nine points and seven rebounds per game during his senior year with the Huskies.

He also played alongside Bristol Flyers and GB international Teddy Okereafor as a freshman at Ryder University.

James fills the final American roster spot on the Scorchers roster and will look to make an immediate impact in our BBL Championship campaign.

He said: “I feel really good. I’m excited and happy to be here.

“I want to bring adversity on both ends of the floor from defence to offence.

“Starting on defence I want to use my speed against the bigger guys, and also on offence using my speed and outside shooting to space out the floor.

“I’ll be whatever the team needs me to be, but playing as a three or a four, getting some outside shots and rebounding.

“I want to help get some wins on the board and get some momentum going.”

Head Coach Creon Raftopoulos added: “The four spot has been really tough for us this season, it’s been a nightmare since the minute we lost Trayvonn Wright at the start of the season.

“We needed a natural four man, and I opted to go for a younger guy because there is always the chance that if he likes it here, he could choose to stick around in to next season.

“I see a lot of resemblances to a young Jordan Williams so I’m hoping he can use his strength and inside presence to our advantage.

“At a good College level he averaged close to a double-double, so he gives us that rebounding and an option to go into the post also.”

Lacey is set to make his Scorchers debut on Friday night as we travel to Manchester Giants in the BBL Championship live on Sky Sports!
