PREVIEW: SCORCHERS TRAVEL TO LEICESTER

Surrey Scorchers will travel to Leicester Riders for a Saturday evening clash in the BBL Championship.

After a third-win in a row at home to Glasgow Rocks last time out, Scorchers will be looking to continue their bright start to 2018.

After a fantastic win over London Lions on New Year’s Day, Scorchers have continued that form, with just a singular defeat in over-time to DBL Sharks Sheffield this year.

Coach Creon Raftopoulos hopes his Scorchers team can continue their fine form against a strong Leicester Side.

“We’re up for it and hopefully we can use the momentum that we’ve had going into this game.

“The guys are starting to gel and they’re buying into what we’re supposed to be doing, so it’s all worked out for us.”

Scorchers point guard Tony Hicks will be looking to continue the fine form that saw him named in the BBL’s ‘All-Star 5’.

Levelling his season high, Hicks finished with 28 points and 9 assists and a +/- of 16 against the Glasgow Rocks last week, and have averaged 21 ppg since the turn of the year.

Leicester Riders will prove to be a tough test for Scorchers, as they lead the BBL Championship with just 2 defeats all season.

One of those defeats came at the hands of the Newcastle Eagles on 12 Jan before Riders hit back with a convincing 86-57 win over the Bristol Flyers last time out.

JR Holder top-scored for Riders against the Bristol side with 18 points while Shane Walker finished with a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Raftopoulos believes Scorchers will have to be at their best for the full game on Saturday.

“You’ve got to give credit where it’s due, the thing about Leicester is they play properly for the entire 40 minutes.”

“We know that we have to give a full 40-minute performance against Leicester to compete with the Champions."
