The Opposition

Founded in 1967, Leicester Riders hold the proud title of being the oldest professional club in British Basketball. Previously known as the Loughborough All-Stars, the club was forced to leave Leicester in the summer of 2000 take up residence at nearby Loughborough University.

This Saturday marks a new era for the club as they hit the court at their brand new home, the Leicester Community Arena, for the first time in front of a sell-out crowd of basketball fans.

Ones to Watch

6’7” US forward TrayVonn Wright is working hard for Riders defensively this season, taking an average of 5.93 rebounds and 2.43 blocks per game so far this season.

Neil Watson put in an impressive 27pts and 7rbs performance last weekend at Plymouth, closely followed by Wright with a double-double 20pts/10rbs effort in Riders’ victory.

The Roster

Scorchers Head Coach Creon Raftopoulos will have an almost full roster to choose from for Saturday’s game, with only Will Neighbour missing from action.

The Form

With just a single loss in their last 6 games in all competitions, Leicester will be looking to continue their excellent BBL form this weekend.

That loss came at the hands of the Newcastle Eagles in the BBL Cup Final earlier this month- the same opposition that Leicester must overcome on Friday evening to open their double header weekend.

Scorchers’ form is somewhat the opposite after going through a team transition in recent weeks, but with two encouraging performances in a row to coincide with the arrivals of Fullah (15pt home debut), Williams (10pt, 9rb debut) and Johnson (16pt debut) Surrey will be looking to turn their fortunes around starting with the BBL Trophy.

Despite defeating the Eagles last Friday, Wolves required overtime to take the points at Surrey Sports Park on Sunday afternoon despite the hosts creeping back on level and lead by 3 points in the dying seconds of the 4th quarter.
