Game Preview: Surrey Scorchers vs. London Lions

Surrey Scorchers head into the New Year looking to make it 4 league wins in a row, but in London Lions they face their nearest rivals and a team who has beaten them on the last 3 occasions.

Coach Creon- ‘We've put ourselves in a position to make the play-offs'

Scorchers ended 2016 on a high, having avenged their BBL Cup Semi-final defeat to Glasgow Rocks, by beating them in the league in one of the best comebacks of the season. With just 4 seconds remaining Surrey were trailing by 1, but Quincy Taylor broke Glasgow hearts by scoring a 2 and winning the game. The team now sit in 8th position in the league, just inside the play-off places. However, it’s been over three weeks since their last match, and while the Christmas period will have given the players a rest, Coach Creon will hope that the extended break won’t have broken the momentum gained from the league run.

During the off-period, Scorchers said goodbye to Jay Bowie. Unfortunately a new signing has been delayed due to visa delays, meaning fans will not get the chance to see him in action on New Year's Day.

London Lions, on the other hand, haven’t had a winter break and have played four games since Surrey’s last. And while they sit 6 points ahead of Scorchers in the table, they have lost 5 out of their last 6 matches, including in the BBL Cup. This is always a hotly fought rivalry and with both teams needing points for their play-off hopes this should be another fiercely contested match.

Ones to Watch

Surrey Scorchers
Quincy Taylor has been in fine form in recent weeks, and his total of 218 for the season is second only to Will Neighbour who’s on 242. Those two a closely followed by Chaz Rollins who’s on 204, and this attacking trio will be players to look out for.

London Lions
Rashad Hassan is Lions top scorer this season on 249 while Zaire Taylor isn’t too far behind on 198 and will be players to keep an eye on.
