CREON: EVERY GAME IS MUST-WIN

Scorchers return to BBL action this Friday against the Manchester Giants at Surrey Sports Park.

Currently unbeaten in the last four home games, Head Coach Creon Raftopoulos has called for more positive support to push the team for a fifth straight home win.

“Getting a loud crowd at the Sports Park helps the players unbelievably.

“The energy levels pick up and you get that little bit more of a push defensively and I feel the fans at Surrey have been absolutely amazing.

“It will be great to continue what they are doing until the end of the season.”

Raftopoulos spoke of the importance of the upcoming games for Scorchers over the next few weeks.

“Every game is a must win game. Especially with the teams we are about to play.

“People will expect the Manchester game to be a formality because they haven’t played that well but they have regrouped and they’ve got two new signings.

“We know it’s not going to be a formality and we have to turn up and give our best.”

Coach Raftopoulos has also confirmed that Jordan Williams will be back in contention next Friday having missed the past three games through injury.

“Jordan Williams is back in full contact and this past week has trained with no problems so hopefully we can maintain that fitness going into the next game against Manchester.”

Tayo Ogedengbe and Josh Steel will both be attending England training camp after the Manchester game, hoping to each earn themselves a place on the Commonwealth Games roster.

Raftopoulos believes both players have done what it takes to be on the plane to Australia.

“Naturally I would be bias to my players but I feel that Josh Steel is an up-and-coming young player who has been part of the GB and England program, and has proved what he can bring to the table.

“Tayo has been a consistently good professional and is very multi-dimensional.

“Both of them are team players so it gives them a really strong shot at making that final team.”
