Captain Tayo Ogedengbe returns to Scorchers for his seventh season

Surrey Scorchers are thrilled to announce Tayo Ogedengbe has returned to the club for a seventh season at SSP.

Tayo is one of the most respected and experienced players in the British Basketball League, he lifted the All-Stars championship back in 2018 and has been hungry for winning ways since.

Delighted to be returning for another season, Tayo said “I feel honoured to be returning as captain for my 7th season.

“I’m definitely most looking forward to playing again in front of fans and winning games. I have always strived to be in a winning team, it’s not always gone in our favour, but starting every season that’s my main goal.”

Head Coach Creon Raftopoulos added: “Tayo will be the first to tell you he was below his own high standards in a mentally difficult covid season.

“He has returned this off season and put in the hours to be at his best for the Scorchers this campaign.

“Tayo leads by example and I believe if he reaches close to his highest level he will drive us to a good season.”

Seeing more British talent return to the BBL and raising the game Tayo commented “The BBL is a high standard despite what people think, it doesn’t always get the respect it deserves.

“More British players are considering playing at home which always boosts the league and the level of competition. It’s going to be exciting to see how teams gel and what teams are successful.”
