BBL season cancelled with immediate effect

Today the British Basketball League has confirmed the remainder of the 2019/2020 season has been cancelled with immediate effect.

The move came after the member clubs unanimously agreed that there was no viable option to allow for the season to be completed in a safe and meaningful manner after the season was originally postponed on 17 March – read the full statement from the BBL here.

Following the cancellation of the season, and based on multiple teams mathematically capable of winning, the independent directors of the BBL Management Board agreed that there would be no winner of the championship title.

As we now start the process of understanding how this decision will effect all of us – the players, staff, volunteers, fans, sponsors, and the wider community – we now need to, more than ever, call upon the Scorchers community for your support during this time.

With no generation of income from our remaining home games, coaching sessions and other generations of revenue, we now face big challenges, in line with other professional sports clubs.

Supporters have been asking how they can support the club, and we hope that during this extraordinary situation our fans will stay behind us, as you always have done, and continue to be the best fans in the BBL.

Please bear with us whilst we work through the refund process and we will be in touch with full details of what you need to do.

Finally, we would like to thank you for your understanding and all of the support we have received so far.

Stay safe and stay healthy.

Creon Raftopoulos and the team at Surrey Scorchers.
