Manchester Giants 87 Surrey Scorchers 84

Scorchers are eliminated from the BBL Cup at the Quarter-Final stage after a narrow defeat to the Manchester Giants.

Martelle McLemore led the way for the Scorchers with 21 points, while Tony Hicks added 13 from the bench in his first game back with the club.

The travelling Scorchers were firing from all cylinders in the first quarter, racing out to a 29-16 lead after the opening ten minutes.

But the hometown Giants responded with an impressive second quarter led by Lyle Hexom.

Tony Hicks scored nine answered points to maintain the Surrey lead as a marginal four point advantage for Creon’s team was the difference at the break.

Manchester returned from the locker room rejuvenated, and took control of the game in the third quarter, holding Surrey to just 11 points.

Giants took a nine-point lead into the final period thanks to some impressive play from Jordan Whelan.

But Scorchers didn’t go down without a fight, as a hard-fought comeback tied the game in the final few minutes.

Tony Hicks came off the bench to give the Scorchers the lead with less than a minute to go.

A big three-pointer from Sam Cassell Jr re-gained the Giants lead, which Surrey were unable to make up in the dying embers.

Manchester Giants advance to the semi-finals of the competition, while the Scorchers are eliminated.

Surrey are back in action on Sunday afternoon as we host the Bristol Flyers at Surrey Sports Park.

Tip-off is at 2pm, and Scorchers fans can tune in via BBL Player.
