Surrey Scorchers 72 Leicester Riders 84

Scorchers were defeated in their opening game of the BBL Championship campaign as Jamell Anderson led the visitors to victory.

Tayo Ogedengbe scored 17 points for Creon Raftopoulos’ side, but it wasn’t enough to stop a well-coached Riders team.

It was the travelling Riders who took control of the game in the early stages, pulling away to a commanding 21-14 lead.

They continued to put their foot on the gas and had a strong lead heading into the half-time interval.

A rejuvenated Scorchers side were quick out of the gate in the second half – with a strong display from Captain Tayo Ogedengbe.

The second unit trio of Martelle McLemore, Evan Walshe and Caylin Raftopoulos were instrumental in the third period, winning the quarter by five points.

But unfortunately the Scorchers left themselves with too much work to do in the final period – with Rob Paternostro’s team winning by 12 points.

Scorchers are back in action tomorrow afternoon as we travel to the Sheffield Sharks.
