WEEKEND PREVIEW: TOUGH TESTS FOR SCORCHERS

Scorchers bring the regular season to a close this weekend with games against the Leicester Riders and the Newcastle Eagles.

Creon Raftopoulos’ side have confirmed their place in the BBL playoffs, which start next week.

Despite their place in the post-season already confirmed the games against Leicester and Newcastle will determine who their opponents will be in the Quarter-Finals.

Scorchers travel to Leicester on Saturday to take on the league champions. Rob Paternostro’s Leicester side have won the league title for three straight seasons and confirmed the league title once more last week despite losing to London.

Leicester have beaten Scorchers in both of their meetings so far this season, but they have lost their previous two games heading into the weekend fixture having lost to both London and Cheshire last weekend.

Scorchers return to Surrey Sports Park on Sunday where they will take on the Newcastle Eagles. A win for

Scorchers would be their tenth straight at home, which would match the club record.

They lost narrowly to Newcastle earlier in the season before defeating them comfortably in front of the home crows in March.

Scorchers could finish the weekend as high as third if other results favour them. The London Lions and Glasgow Rocks are both within distance and are at risk of being leapfrogged by the in-form Scorchers.
