WEEKEND PREVIEW: Scorchers on the road for double header

Surrey Scorchers face two road trips this weekend for the second round of the 2018/19 BBL Championship season.

Up first is a trip to the EIS Arena on Friday (28 Sept) as Scorchers take on DBL Sharks Sheffield.

Both sides will head into the game looking for their first victory of the season after Scorchers were defeated by the Glasgow Rocks and Sharks suffered an 87-92 defeat to the Manchester Giants last weekend.

Long-serving captain Mike Tuck has returned for another season in Sheffield, re-joined by Dirk Williams and Chris Alexander as well a number of new faces.

It was Sheffield who took the series over Scorchers last season, with Creon Raftopoulos’ side winning on the opening night of the season.

Sharks then ran out victors at Surrey Sports Park in December before a thrilling overtime win in January for Atiba Lyons’ side.

After Friday night’s game, Scorchers head back down south to take on new local rivals the London City Royals.

The Royals opened their BBL campaign with a 73-78 victory over the Bristol Flyers, with Matthew Bryan-Amaning top-scoring with 28.

The BBL’s newest side features former Scorchers, Will Neighbour and Elvisi Dusha who scored 13 and 9, respectively on their Royals debuts.

Scorchers will be looking for a positive weekend before returning to Surrey Sports Park on Saturday 6 October against the Cheshire Phoenix.
