TAYO: WE CAN STILL IMPROVE

Surrey Scorchers lost their second game of the New Year on Saturday, losing to the Leicester Riders 104-82 on the road.

The away side kept up with the reigning BBL Champions in the first half, leading for spells in the first and second quarter.

But the Riders showed their class in the second-half and seized control of the game, claiming another win over the Scorchers this season.

Scorchers captain Tayo Ogedengbe said: “In the first half we were aggressive on offence and it was difficult for them to contain us one on one.”

“It was a very high foul count in the third quarter which changed the game and put us in a hole.”

Despite winning four of their first six games in the new year, Ogedengbe refuses to settle for the record and believes the team can still improve.

“I wouldn’t say we are happy, we are still trying to win every game possible but the good start to the year has brought us confidence.”

On Sunday the Cheshire Phoenix lifted the first BBL silverware of the season, defeating the Worcester Wolves in front of a sold out Birmingham Arena to lift the BBL Cup.

Ogedengbe expressed the motivation and desire to bring some silverware to Surrey in the near future.

“Silverware has always been our goal and seeing others pick up a trophy is always motivation.”

Scorchers are currently sitting in sixth position in the BBL standings with a 10-11 record. They now have a two-week break before their next league game, where they will take on the Manchester Giants at Surrey Sports Park.
