Tayo leads Scorchers to Flyers victory

Tayo Ogedengbe starred in a superb 89-81 win over a resolute Bristols Flyers side at Surrey Sports Park.

The Surrey Scorchers captain scored 31 points (78FG%) and had 10 rebounds as he inspired his team to a much-needed 89-81 success against the Flyers.

With a starting five of Schreiber, Ogedengbe, Felder, Schlitzer and new Scorchers point guard Ross-Miller, Scorchers held Bristol to within a three-point deficit in the first quarter but ended with 24 points to Flyers’ 22.

The visitors lead out 3 points at half time and held on to that advantage going into the final quarter.

Creon Raftopoulos’ men produced a 15-3 spurt in the final period as they outscored the Flyers 23-12 in the final 10 minutes as a whole, to end a three-game losing run, and seal the season series with Andrea Kapoulas’ squad.

New Scorchers point guard K.C. Ross-Miller made his BBL debut, and didn’t disappoint the home fans, putting in an exhilarating performance scoring 15 points with 6 steals and 4 assists.

Commenting on the game, Scorchers Coach Creon Raftopoulos said:

“All wins are great for us, they bring back that feel good factor. A happy team trains harder and we know that we owed the fans a better performance from the last time we played at home.

“The fans tonight were absolutely great for us, helped us energy on defence and that’s the way we want to be; defend a home court all the time.

“Tayo is a Captain that leads by example and I think this is the perfect example of him doing just that. I always repeat myself when I say Elvisi has done a great job for us as point guard, and bringing in KC to help out is huge for us. Tonight we saw the qualities that he possesses and I think the two of them will compliment each other really well throughout the season.

“It’s a very quick turnaround to Glasgow. The story of the season has included injuries and not having certain players in position, but all teams go through that so we can’t play the excuse card.

“We’ve got to turn up and give performances like we did tonight.

Scorchers are back at Surrey Sports Park next Friday 11 December against Manchester Giants. Tip off is 7.30pm with tickets still available online.
