Surrey Sports Park is pleased to announce that the British Basketball League (BBL) has approved a change of ownership for the Surrey BBL franchise.
The franchise will now be wholly owned by Surrey Sports Park and will be based full time at the University of Surrey-owned facility.
Gavin Baker, Franchise Director, said: “We are delighted to be able to continue our involvement in basketball in Surrey. The sport has a rich history in the county and has experienced some testing times in recent seasons. We want to rebuild the strong community aspect of the club and ensure that the future of Surrey basketball is as illustrious as its past.
“This is a really exciting time for basketball in Surrey and we cannot wait to get started in building a competitive, talented squad in time for the 2015/16 BBL season.”
Ed Percival, BBL Chairman, added: “We are pleased to be working with Surrey Sports Park in the future development of this franchise. We feel confident that by utilising their extensive resources and experience, the future of basketball in Surrey is in safe hands.”
The new club will join two other sporting franchises based at the Sports Park, Surrey Storm Netball and Surrey Smashers Badminton, and will be looking to emulate their successes on and off the court.
