Surrey Scorchers 97 London Lions 98

Scorchers lose a fantastic game of basketball against London Lions.

Deandre Liggins showed his class in the final quarter to secure the win for London, despite Scorchers pushing them all the way to the very end.

Lacey James continued his impressive start to life in Surrey, as he led the way with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Creon Raftopoulos’ side started the game in terrific fashion with a 9-0 run sparked by Ryan Richards.

Lions responded as Dirk Williams and Orlando Parker helped the away side back into the game.

Surrey led 23-16 at the end of the first quarter thanks to some impressive team offence.

Liggins and Justin Robinson rallied Vince Macaulay’s side back into the game and ended the opening half tied at 44-44.

Lions showed their quality in the third quarter with some outstanding passing from Liggins, ending in wide-open lay-ups for Ward-Hibbert and Tawiah.

Despite Lions leading by nine heading into the final quarter, Scorchers showed their character with an impressive comeback led by Martelle McLemore and Caylin Raftopoulos.

Both teams traded blows down the stretch, with Scorchers trailing by one point with 30 seconds to play.

Caylin Raftopoulos drove to the basket and shot a floater that bounced off the hoop and into the hands of Lacey James, but he was called for an over-the-back foul, gifting Deandre Liggins two free-throws with six seconds to play.

He converted both, and a buzzer-beater mid-range jumpshot from Tayo Ogedengbe wasn’t enough as Scorchers lost the game 97-98 at SSP.
