SURREY SCORCHERS 86-82 PLYMOUTH RAIDERS

Scorchers won a thriller at Surrey Sports Park as they defeated the Plymouth Raiders 86-82.

Tony Hicks and Josh Steel kept their cool down the stretch to keep the Scorchers in front in Q1.

Alex Owumi then converted both free throws with a second left on the clock to push the lead to four points.

Hicks lead the scoring with 19 points, followed by Josh Steel with 15.

The Scorchers started brightly as Tony Hicks moved into double figures in the opening quarter. Surrey ended the first quarter with a six point lead.

A foul-stricken second quarter slowed down the tempo, but the Scorchers held firm to maintain a five point lead at the half-time interval.

Former Scorcher Will Neighbour carried Plymouth back in the third quarter, and a despite a scoring barrage from Gerald Robinson, the Raiders had a one point lead going into the final ten minutes.

A physical fourth quarter was won when Tony Hicks and Josh Steel converted four points in a matter of seconds to put the game out of reach.

The game finished 86-82, with all Scorchers scoring. The win makes it three wins out of four in 2018.

Scorchers look ahead to next week’s home game at Surrey Sports Park against Glasgow Rocks. With each team at one-a-piece in wins over each other, it is set to be a close game.
