Scorchers Sign Skyler

American-born Scotland international Skyler White joins Surrey Scorchers for the 2019-20 BBL season.

The 6ft 8 forward, who holds a dual American and British passport, arrives with a reputation as a skilled three-point shooter who is equally adept as a defender and athletic rebounder. Born in Clyde Hill, Washington State, to Scottish parents, White played for Terceira in the Portuguese Basketball League in 2018-19, having previously been part of Scotland’s 2018 Commonwealth Games qualification campaign.

With Terceira, he averaged 14.4 points per game, was third in the LPB for total three-pointers made, and ranked in the LPB top 10 for both blocks and rebounds, with 1.3 and 7.7, respectively.

White also played for several NCAA Colleges, with The George Washington, Idaho and Point Loma, before representing the LA Clippers in the Eurobasket Summer League in Las Vegas last year.

Scorchers Coach, Creon Raftopoulos, said: “We first tried to sign Skyler in his rookie season, so are happy to finally get him in a Scorchers kit. It’s always a bonus to get feedback from a player who knows our league, and speaking to former TeamGB and Rocks captain, Kieron Achara, Skyler will have no problem adjusting to the physicality of the BBL.

“We think Skyler’s a blue collar guy that our fans will love watching week to week. He also has the ability to score and make big plays.”

Your first chance to see Skyler in action will be next Tuesday, 3 September, as Scorchers host Cal Poly Mustangs – get your tickets here! That is followed on Sunday 8 September as we host B. Braun Sheffield Sharks at the Sports Park Arena – come to both games for just £7.50 with our two-game saver!
