Scorchers sign Ryan Richards on season-long deal!

Surrey Scorchers are delighted to announce the signing of former NBA draft pick and GB international Ryan Richards on a season-long deal!

Creon Raftopoulos has moved quickly to secure the services of the 29-year-old Center, as he returns to SSP for a third spell after short stints with the club in 2018 and 2019.

The 6’11 big man has enjoyed a decorated career to date, including being drafted with the 49th pick of the 2010 NBA draft by the San Antonio Spurs.

He linked up with the Scorchers in 2018 while he was recovering from an injury, and returned once again in 2019 before moving on to play in Iran.

Most recently suiting up for Phoenix Brussels in Belgium, Richards is back for a full season with the Scorchers, and will link up once again with Creon Raftopoulos and good friend Tayo Ogedengbe.

He said: “I’m extremely happy to be back with Scorchers.

“The franchise has always been professional and taken care of me, and it’s a great group of guys.

“I’m ready to get to work.”

Head Coach Creon Raftopoulos added: “With the unexpected loss or Rashad Hassan we had to move quickly with the BBL Championship fast approaching.

“We started our scouting process and Ryan showed his desire to come back to Surrey and compete for silverware.

“The fact that he showed interest in being here was really big for us.

“He wants to win and he wants to be a big component of the team which I know he can be.

“So I’m really excited to have him and I think we are going to see the best of Ryan Richards in the BBL this coming season.”
