Scorchers sign Matthew Bryan-Amaning

Scorchers are delighted to announce the signing of British Forward Matthew Bryan-Amaning.

The 31-year-old joins Scorchers following a stint in Mexico playing for Dorados, and suited up for the London City Royals last season.

During his season back in the BBL, ‘MBA’ poured in 17 points per game as the Royals won the BBL Trophy and made it all the way to the Play-off final at the O2 Arena.

An established GB international, he played at Washington University alongside current NBA stars Isaiah Thomas, Terrence Ross and Justin Holiday.

Matthew joins Scorchers to help Creon’s team secure a place in the BBL play-offs – and will be available for tomorrow’s clash with the Sheffield Sharks.

Having won titles in Argentina and Mexico, as well as a league title in Japan, there is no doubt MBA will bring a winning mentality to SSP.

Pleased to be joining Scorchers, Matthew said: “I’m happy to come in and help out a greatly run professional programme like the Scorchers.

“Also, being able to play with a personal friend of many years in Tayo Ogedengbe.

“The teams started the season off solid and hope my presence and play can help them keep climbing up the table.

“I want to thank Coach Creon for the opportunity to play in the league and be on home soil again.”

Head Coach Creon Raftopoulos added: “I’m really happy and excited to have a player of Matt’s quality and calibre sign for us.

“We needed a defensive presence in the paint and we know he’ll be able to bring that for us.

“More importantly, he has won in a number of leagues that he has played in so he knows how to win.

“We’re looking forward to starting this journey with him and hopefully its something that with the plans that we have for the future, it won’t just be a short-term fix for us.”

Scorchers would also like to announce that Center Mike Thiep has left the team.

We thank Mike for his contributions on and off the court during his time at SSP, and wish him all the best for the future.
