Scorchers sign Devontavius Payne

Scorchers are thrilled to announce the signing of Devontavius Payne for the BBL Championship campaign. The guard returns to the BBL after playing for the Plymouth Raiders last season – averaging 11 points and three rebounds per game. He originally signed for the Glasgow Rocks at the beginning of the season, but the deal fell through. The 24-year-old, nicknamed ‘Uno’, had a formidable college career with East Tennessee State averaging nine points per game and shooting 39% from three-point range.

Standing at 6’2, Payne returns to the UK for his second season as a pro and joins Creon Raftopoulos’ side to boost the Scorchers play-off hopes. You can see Uno in action for Scorchers for the first time on December 20th as we take on Cheshire Phoenix at SSP!

Devontavius Payne

Devontavius reminds me a little bit of Tony Hicks in the sense that he’s a combo guard that’s capable of scoring. I watched him when he played at Plymouth and I had actually looked at him as a rookie before he joined them. I expect big things from him. Glasgow moved quickly to get him but unfortunately that broke through. He’s a guy who has BBL experience so I’m really happy to have him join the Scorchers.
