Scorchers return Martelle McLemore 2021/22 roster

Surrey Scorchers welcome back Martelle Mclemore for the 2021/2022 season.

The 33-year-old returns to the Scorchers following an impactful 2021/22 BBL campaign after taking a 7-year break from topflight British Basketball.

Martelle will be re-united with last year’s vets in Raftopoulos and Wanliss as the core of the team setting the tone for the season.

McLemore wasted no time in displaying his role within the squad taking on defensive assignments and demonstrating his natural ability to score the ball.

Last season, he averaged 8 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists in 22 minutes of play.

Martelle said: “I’m excited to be back, my first year back was a tough one, I was learning the pace of the BBL again as I had been out for 6 to 7 years.

“The fans at Surrey Sports Park are like a sixth man to the team, when the fans get going it pumps us with adrenalin, so I am looking forward to welcoming the fans back.”

Head Coach Creon Raftopoulos added “Martelle struggled to produce a consistent run of good performances offensively but was always solid defensively.

“We have spoken about him keeping out of foul trouble so we have him in the game at crucial times. He’s another veteran that will be super valuable for us this season.”

McLemore finished with his thoughts about the roster this year commenting “so far with the signings his year I am looking forward to it, I think Coach Creon is getting back into the hardnosed blue collar team with a big emphasis on defence, because we know we can score baskets.”
