Scorchers opening two games forfeited by Bristol Flyers due to COVID-19

Surrey Scorchers opening two games of the 2020/2021 season against Bristol Flyers in the BBL Cup will no longer go ahead, following discussion and agreement with the British Basketball League.

The two games will be forfeited under the BBL’s COVID-19 secure play guidelines, as Bristol Flyers are unable to field a side due to four members of the programme testing positive for COVID-19 during the club’s routine testing of players and staff.

As a result, Surrey Scorchers have been awarded 20-0 wins in line with the Covid-19 rule amendments.

Although none of the cases were symptomatic, all Flyers players and staff will now strictly follow Government guidelines as a result and enter a 14-day isolation process.

While we are disappointed to hear Bristol cannot fulfil our opening two fixtures, the safety of players and staff from both sides remains paramount in these unprecedented times.

We wish all players and staff of the Bristol Flyers who have tested positive a speedy recovery.
