Scorchers fall short against Flyers
After Scorchers stole a one point win last week the Flyers arrived to Surrey Sports Park seeking retribution in a game that did not disappoint the fans.
With injuries picked up midweek in Plymouth the Scorchers played with some banged up bodies and Andrew Lawrence out due to injury. Flyers starting PG Miller and guard Trejon Jacob did not kit up for the Bristol side.
Scorchers started the game slow only scoring five points in the first six minutes of the game. Struggling to rotate defensively Flyers Thomas-Edwards and Malcom Delpeche pushed Bristol to an 8-0 run.
A big dunk from Legend and Caylin Raftopoulos coming off the bench sparked the team into action after knocking down a deep 3 pointer to finish the first quarter 17 – 24 in favour of the Flyers.
The Scorchers would remain down seven going into the locker room at half time after a tough second quarter.
Strong words from coach Raftopoulos at half time saw an explosion in the third quarter with Captain Tayo coming out with back to back three pointers as well as one from Stanly Davis Jr which would level the game.
Bristol get hold of the reigns with some tough buckets from Evans who would finish the night with 22 points.
The final quarter would be a dog fight with every possession making the difference. Stanley Davis Jr stepped up to the plate scoring in every way possible throughout the final ten minutes ending the night with a game high of 28 points.
Martelle McLemore tied the game up at 82 a piece with 30 seconds remaining on the clock. Bristol come out of the time-out and put the ball in the hands of Evans to close out the game.
Knocking down a clutch 3-pointer with 4 seconds left on the clock the Flyers would see this one out as McLemore’s chance of tying again falls short with a foot over the line. Scorchers take a 1 point loss with a final score 84-85 at Sports park.
