SCORCHERS FACE GIANTS IN THE BBL CUP FIRST ROUNDER

Surrey Scorchers face Manchester Giants in the first round of the British Basketball League Cup this Sunday at Surrey Sports Park.

Having earned their first home win of the season last weekend against the Worcester Wolves, the side will be looking to replicate the success of last season’s run of home wins with another victory this weekend.

Scorchers face the threat of immediate elimination this weekend, with the loser of Sunday’s game being knocked out of the BBL Cup.

The team will be feeling confident as they already boast a 109–93 win over the visiting Manchester Giants from earlier this month.

The Giants have failed to make it beyond the first round of the cup in the past six seasons, whereas Surrey Scorchers beat Plymouth Raiders to make it to the quarter-finals last year.

Speaking to one of last weekend’s MVPs, Willie Atwood, he spoke of the newfound optimism in the Scorchers camp, “The team is ready to play on Sunday, we feel ready to go out there, play our game and come out with the win”

Atwood really emphasises the team ethos amongst the guys, saying that being named MVP was about all of them.

“It wasn’t all me, my teammates found me in the right spots for my shots and coach chose to play me. We’re getting better at figuring out the right combinations, and if we continue to do that, I’m sure the wins will keep coming.”

Tickets are still available for the game this Sunday!
