SCORCHERS 100-86 READING ROCKETS

Surrey Scorchers defeated the Reading Rockets 100-86 in a pre-season friendly at Surrey Sports Park.

25 points from both Josh Steel and Tayo Ogedengbe helped Scorchers record a confident win as they prepare for the 2018/19 BBL Championship season.

Scorchers got off to a very strong start with Caylin Raftopoulos opening the scoring with a big three-point shot.

Opening up an eight-point lead early in the first quarter, with Josh Steel and Jordan Williams getting in on the action, Scorchers showed their strength early on.

The strong performance continued, and Scorchers led 26-14 at the end of the first quarter.

Former Scorcher Henry Wilkins, who was representing Scorchers for a one-off appearance helped Creon Raftopoulos’ side extend their lead to 50-35 at half-time.

Scorchers opened up a 20-point lead (70-50) in the third quarter before Reading Rockets fought back.

Heading into the final quarter with a 77-65 lead, Steel continued to get on the scoreboard and help Scorchers see out the win.

With a number of Scorchers academy players on the bench for the day, the game finished with five academy players on court as they reached 100 points.
