ROBINSON: I LIKE THE CHALLENGE

Gerald Robinson scored 30 points as Surrey Scorchers recorded a dramatic win in front of the FreeSports cameras as they won in overtime to defeat the Bristol Flyers 102-97.

The teams couldn’t be separated after four quarters and needed an extra five minutes to split them.

Tayo Ogedengbe scored seven of the ten Scorchers points in overtime to extend the winning streak at Surrey Sports Park to nine games.

Robinson led the scoring while Tony Hicks added 21 points and 10 assists.

It was another fantastic performance on home-court from Robinson, which has seen him average 24 points-per-game and 8 rebounds-per-game in his last five home games.

Fan-favourite Robinson said: “We wanted to keep the play-off push going and protect our home court.

“Bristol are a really good team that never give up. They kept pushing even when they were down by 17 in the first quarter.

“We wanted to control the tempo because it got a little too fast. We tried to slow it down and it worked for us.

“I was feeling good and it felt good to get some early shots in the game. I enjoy playing against big and strong defenders.

“I like the challenge plus I love a TV game!”

The ninth consecutive win leaves Scorchers in fifth place in the BBL standings as they head into the final weekend of the BBL, and Robinson spoke of the team’s desire to stay unbeaten at home in 2018.

“We’ve been having a good run and we wanted to keep that going, I’m glad we pulled that out.”

Next up for Surrey is a trip to Leicester on Saturday to take on the Champion Riders.

It is the first of a back-to-back as they return to Surrey Sports Park on Sunday to play the Newcastle Eagles. It will be their final two games of the regular season.
