Scorchers defeated the London Lions 82-80 to snap a four-game losing streak.
Gerald Robinson’s 13 points propelled the Scorchers into a double digit lead in the first half, and some tough defence in the second was enough to see off the Lions.
Tony Hicks top scored with 21 followed by Robinson with 18.
Robinson brought the Sports Park to its feet with an array of three-pointers and baskets in the first quarter to propel Scorchers into a 32-19 lead.
An offensive masterclass and some tough defence continued in the second quarter as Scorchers went into the half-time interval with a 49-39 lead.
The Lions didn’t go down without a fight and clawed their way back in the third quarter through Corey Dixon and Justin Robinson, as they slashed the Scorchers lead to just three points.
A tightly contested and aggressive fourth quarter was won thanks to a late scoring flurry from
Hicks, who lead the Scorchers down the stretch and extended the lead to five points with a minute to play.
It was enough for Scorchers to hold on and begin 2018 with a big win.
