Report: Raiders 87-63 Scorchers

Surrey Scorchers were handed their second defeat of the weekend on Sunday afternoon as the Plymouth Raiders dished out a confident 24-point win in the south-west.

Coach Creon’s side needed to bounce back from Saturday evening’s home loss to the London Lions, but the visitors came up against a well drilled and organised Raiders side who took their first win of the season at the second attempt.

Raiders set the tone early on in the tie and held a double figure lead just 7 minutes into the game. Neighbour potted his first bucket of the game to end an 11 point from the hosts but it wasn’t enough to swing the momentum, with Plymouth taking a 24-10 advantage into the first break.

The gap continued to increase in Q2 as a string of shots from various Scorchers players went astray, allowing Raiders to lead by 21 at half time (47-26).

A tighter second half followed as Neighbour continued to bag the majority of the points for his side, but a late 8-1 run was the best Scorchers could muster towards a comeback as Plymouth took an 87-63 win.

Neighbour took the top scorers title for the second time over the weekend with 25 points.

Scorchers host last season’s play-off runners up the Leicester Riders in a 7.30pm tip-off at the Sports Park this Friday, with both new US imports due to feature in the roster!

Tickets for all home games this season are on sale now.
