REPORT: ESH GROUP NEWCASTLE EAGLES 103-80 SURREY SCORCHERS

Newcastle Eagles defeated Surrey Scorchers 103-80 tonight in the BBL Championship

The league leaders ran out comfortable winners despite a close first-half which saw Eagles take a slight 44-43 at the break.

Scorchers are now four games without a win in all competitions while Newcastle Eagles have six wins out of six in the BBL Championship.

Tony Hicks top-scored for Scorchers with 19 points while Tayo Ogedengbe scored 15, including his 1000thfield goal in the BBL Championship.

Eagles started the game brighter and were 10-0 up after just over two minutes before a Scorchers comeback put Coach Creon’s side 22-21 up after the first quarter.

9 points in the second quarter from Hicks saw the game remain close with Eagles holding a slim advantage at half-time

The league leaders upped their performance from the start of the second half and eventually ran out comfortable winners.

Jaysean Paige top-scored for Newcastle with 25 points followed by Darius Defoe with 23 points.

Scorchers will be hoping to get back to winning ways this Sunday at Surrey Sports Park as they host the Manchester Giants
