Preview: Scorchers to host Force

Surrey Scorchers are out for revenge this weekend when they meet Leeds Force in the BBL Championship, as when the teams faced each other earlier in the season Leeds came out 76-62 winners. Since then, however, their fortunes have changed dramatically, and Scorchers have won four of their last six league matches, while Leeds have lost nine of their last ten, with their only win coming against the Manchester Giants.

‘Comeback Kings’

Scorchers played two games last weekend when they took on Manchester Giants in the league and London Lions in the BBL Trophy on Friday and Saturday respectively. On both occasions, they won the game just before the final buzzer sounded, and these results alongside some other notable scalps such as Glasgow Rocks when they also came from behind to win, has given Scorchers the nickname ‘The Comeback Kings’. This weekend Surrey will be looking for another victory to further cement their place in the play-off positions.

Despite Leeds’ recent form, they have won their last four matches over Scorchers, and they will be looking to make it a fifth this time around.

They will also want to win to catch up on their league rivals. Currently, they are six points behind Surrey who hold the remaining play-off spot.

This game could also see Scorchers new signing Gabriel McCray make his debut as he is the latest US import to be added to Coach Creon’s squad.

One to watch:

Surrey Scorchers:

Last weekend Will Neighbour made the BBL All-Star Five, due to his impressive performances over Giants and Lions. His best performance came against Manchester when he earned a double-double, scoring 26 points and gaining 10 rebounds. And against the Lions, he scored the match winning 2 on the buzzer that sent Scorchers into the quarter-finals of the BBL Trophy. Another player to look out for is Mike Ochereobia who made the All-Star bench last weekend.

Leeds Force:

Jermaine Sanders is Leeds top scorer this season with 236 points, while Robert Marsden isn’t too far behind on 197, and both will be players to keep an eye on.
